Bathroom Breaks
Although this may not seem like a huge issue, many students enjoy leaving the class setting to use the bathroom. To manage this behavior, consider the following ideas:
-Have a system. Have passes they may take, items they place on desk while out, or a form to fill out for permission to leave.
-Set a limit on the number of times each student may use the bathroom in one day. If you tell the students they only get one chance to use the bathroom, it will eliminate the unnecessary trips to the bathroom.
-Remind students that recess and lunch time is a perfect opportunity to use the bathroom before coming back into the classroom.
-Take notice of the students who use the bathroom regularly. If it becomes an issue, have a one-on-one conversation with that student to remind them when to go.
-Tell the students why you limit the bathroom time. Let students know that you want them in the classroom and miss them when they leave so often.
-Keep class interesting! Most often, students use the bathroom because they are bored or no longer care about what is happening in the classroom. High energy and excitement will keep the kids engaged.
