Short Attention Span
At any age, it is difficult for any human being to stay seated, in one location, for a long period of time. Especially with the increase in technology, many kids have short attention spans. Here are a few things to accomodate for this:
-Keep kids moving! They are used to change every 3 seconds. Let them move throughout the classroom, talk to different people, engage in various activities.
-Use technology. Students are used to the quick pace of technology and may benefit from using technology as a resource for learning.
-Incorporate the multiple intelligences. Let them listen to music, perform plays, solve puzzles, etc.
-Practice building stamina. Start with short periods of time and slowly increase the time spent doing any activity.
-Plan props. Bringing in different toys, materials, costumes, etc. will grab the students attention and quickly engage them into the lesson.
