Invading Personal Space
At a young age, students often do not understand the concept of personal space. This may cause a problem in the classroom. Consider different ideas to address invading personal space:
-Discuss with students the importance of personal space and our own special "bubbles." If we step inside someone elses bubble, it will pop and they might be upset or feel uncomfortable. Repeating the word, "bubble" will be a good reminder for students who struggle with invading personal space.
-Similar to this, tell students to keep a hula-hoop space between themselves. Bring in a real hula-hoop so students have a visual and can easily understand what it means to stay out of people's hula-hoop space.
-Take advantage of technology and the resources given on the internet. Use YouTube or create your own song for personal space. Students will love the rhythm.
-Similar to a song, create or find a poem about personal space. Repeat it the first few weeks of school so that the kids memorize it.
-Use ideas such as, "please keep arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times." Remind the students to get into their vehicles (use the common phrase just mentioned) when they are touching and bothering students around them.
